Dave Coulier’s Journey from Sitcom Star to Wellness Advocate

From “Cut It Out” to “Cutting Out the Toxins”

For millions of people, Dave Coulier will always be Uncle Joey.

The voices, the physical comedy, the goofy heart, Full House wouldn’t have been Full House without him. In living rooms across America, Dave’s character offered comfort, levity, and the reminder that family doesn’t always look traditional, but it should always feel loving.

What audiences didn’t see, then or now, is how deeply Dave has always paid attention to people, to moments, and eventually, to his own health.

The Man Behind the Laughter

Long before wellness became a conversation, Dave Coulier built a life around instinct, creativity, and bringing joy to others. Photo by Melissa Coulier.

Born in Detroit and raised with Midwestern grit and warmth, Dave Coulier found his calling early. Comedy wasn’t just a career; it was a language. From impersonating teachers over his high school PA system to performing alongside future legends like Robin Williams, Jay Leno, and David Letterman, Dave’s path was built on instinct and a willingness to take risks.

That willingness led him to Los Angeles, to stand-up stages, and eventually to the role that would define a generation: Joey Gladstone.

On Full House, Dave’s comedy was clean and joy-forward. In an era before wellness trends and ingredient labels, the show wasn’t about what we consumed; it was about how we connected. And Dave was at the heart of that connection.

Even after Full House ended, Dave never stopped working. Voice acting, children’s entertainment, touring comedy, hosting, directing, and eventually returning as Uncle Joey in Fuller House, his career has been defined by adaptability and heart.

A Diagnosis That Changed Everything

In 2024, Dave’s life took an unexpected turn when he was diagnosed with B-cell Non-Hodgkin’s Lymphoma.

Like so many people who face a serious diagnosis, Dave began asking questions, not just about treatment, but about why. Why did his lymphatic system fail? Why did cancer enter his body? And what, if anything, he could control moving forward.

During chemotherapy, reflection became action.

Dave began looking closely at the environment around him, the everyday products he used without a second thought. What he found was unsettling: PFAS, BPA, petroleum-based dyes, and other harmful substances woven into daily life through food, hygiene products, home goods, apparel, and more.

It wasn’t about blame. It was about awareness.

Becoming “Awear”

Dave coined a word for what he was experiencing: “Awear”.

Not just aware, but “Awear”. Mindful of what we consume, what we wear, and what we put on our skin. A philosophy rooted in empowerment.

He didn’t overhaul everything overnight. Instead, he made one small, human choice: he changed his toothpaste.

That single change became the beginning of a larger journey. But Dave quickly realized how difficult this journey was. Consumer product labels were confusing. Information was unclear. Truly non-toxic options were hard to find.

So he did what he’s always done when he sees a gap: he built something better.

Turning Personal Wake-Up into Public Good

Alongside his wife Melissa, a longtime wellness advocate, and partners, including Pat Greene, Dave helped launch AwearMarket.com, a next-generation online marketplace focused on healthier, non-toxic living.

The mission was simple: make clean living easier.

AwearMarket doesn’t just sell products, it curates them. Brands are vetted. Ingredients are studied. Small businesses doing things the right way are elevated. From food and home goods to personal care and pet products, the platform exists to remove confusion and replace it with trust.

And importantly, AwearMarket gives back, partnering with the V Foundation for Cancer Research, with a round-up program that directly supports cancer research.

A Second Diagnosis and an Even Stronger Resolve

In October 2025, while building the AwearMarket model, Dave went in for a routine checkup and PET scan. What doctors found was unexpected: p16 squamous carcinoma at the base of his tongue.

A second cancer diagnosis within 12 months.

This time, it was caught early. Dave underwent robotic surgery followed by 35 radiation treatments over seven weeks. And rather than slowing him down, the diagnosis strengthened his resolve.

As Dave has shared openly, early detection saved his life twice.

Today, he encourages others to do the same: get checked, advocate for yourself, don’t delay care. Prevention and awareness are not abstract ideas; they are life-saving tools.

The Same Heart, A New Chapter

Dave Coulier’s story is all about expanding who he is.

The man who once reminded us to “cut it out” is now asking us to cut out what no longer serves our health. The comedian who brought laughter into millions of homes is now bringing clarity into conversations about wellness.

At its core, Dave’s journey is still about connection to family, to community, and to one another.

And his message is refreshingly simple. You don’t have to change everything. You just have to start with one thing.

Because awareness — Awearness — can change a life.
