New Year. New You. The Importance of Self-Care this New Year.

Happy New Year, bathers!

We’re not here to talk about that new year, new you stuff, but we are here to talk about something important!

What’s that? Well, it’s self-care.

Before you go rolling your eyes or scrolling past the post, give us a chance; we promise it’s worth it!

Let’s face it; our lives are hectic. Many of us are torn in different directions-- jobs, school, children, housework, yard work-- I mean, should we keep going? With each year that passes, it might seem like more and more is being piled onto your plate. Now, if we were talking beef empanadas, no one would complain (except maybe vegetarians), but you get the point. 

People, we’re not talking beef empanadas; we’re talking priorities and responsibilities! 

Have you stopped to consider what might happen to your endless list of priorities and responsibilities if you are not well enough to attend to them? At the risk of sounding cliche, we’ll remind you that you cannot take care of others if you are not first attending to your own needs. 

Many might scoff at the idea of self-care because, well, it might seem daunting, time-consuming, and frivolous, but perhaps it’s time we redefine it. Self-care doesn’t have to mean luxuriating in extravagant spa treatments or learning about chakras and essential oils. 

Quite simply, self-care means caring for oneself, physically, mentally, and emotionally.  Furthermore,  if we are all individuals, this care can take on exponentially varied meanings! Maybe caring for yourself means indulging in a favorite treat, sipping a cup of coffee in silence, going out dancing, meditating, or doing a little retail therapy. Maybe it means going for a walk, getting a massage, or reading a book. 

Self-care is about the “just because.” It’s about doing something because we want to and not because we have to, and it can be as intricate or as simple as we’d like it to be. 

As you welcome in 2023, TOA Waters invites you to prioritize your desires. Squeeze in some “you time.” Sprinkle in more of the things that nourish you, and we’re willing to bet that doing so will make the task of juggling your plates a little less daunting.
